Surprises of the new Renault Clio
It is necessarily an event, since it is the best-selling car in France. It is also the best-selling Renault in the world, as well as the best-selling car in the segment in Europe. The Renault Clio. It is the fifth generation that is unveiled this week, with several surprises. The third is in the exterior appearance, frankly very close to the Clio IV. All the previous Clio's had marked a clear change in style by changing generation. This is not the case here at all. It's a satisfaction for the designers of the Clio IV. However, you can see that the car is new. The elements are better integrated, there is more maturity in this design.
The second surprise is the interior, which is decidedly more upscale than before. The renaultphiles remember that the Clio III was clearly better finished than the II, while the gap between the III and the IV was non-existent. The Clio V is a big improvement, and it's going with the latest fashion (we'd rather write that than modernize), with a fully digital instrumentation (with 2 widths depending on the level of finish). On the dashboard, without any traditional meter, as well as on the central console with a 23.6 cm diagonal screen (on the higher finishes). This is the largest ever seen on a Renault, as on any car in this segment.
The LED headlamps on the first level of equipment confirm the Clio V's upmarket status, but the first and biggest surprise of the Clio Y is the way it was unveiled. In 3 steps! On Monday morning, when Renault released the first information, it only communicated about the interior. Tuesday morning, it was only about the exterior design, and still no technical information. We clearly have the feeling that the propulsion is a secondary issue... However, we know that the Clio will receive a 1-liter 3-cylinder engine, the same as the Twingo, 75 hp in its atmospheric version, and 100 and 117 hp in its turbocharged versions, as seen in the Nissan Micra. The 1.5 liter diesel will also be part of the car, and we expect a hybrid variant, a real hybrid, full-hybrid, as on a Yaris, but because it is the most desirable, it will be waited a little longer.
